  15. WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause
  16.      serious, system-wide problems that may require you to
  17.      reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot
  18.      guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
  19.      Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own
  20.      risk.

  22. Microsoft Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server turn NUM LOCK off
  23. when you log off or shutdown the system to preserve the state of the
  24. key at that time. The system automatically saves the machine state in
  25. the HKEY_CURRENT_USERS value in the Local Machine hive in the Registry
  26. database. To change this behavior, you can change the
  27. HKEY_CURRENT_USERS value.

  29. To change this value, perform the following three steps:
  30.  
  31. 1. Start the Registration Information Editor, REGEDT32.
  32.  
  33. 2. Choose HKEY_USERS in the Local Machine hive and search for the
  34.    DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard subkey.
  35.  
  36.    The default value is InitialKeyboardIndicators:REG_SZ:0x80000000.
  37.  
  38.    If this key has the value 0, Windows NT turns off NUM LOCK when the
  39.    user logs off; if this key has the value 2, Windows NT turns on NUM
  40.    LOCK when the user logs off.

  42. 3. Choose HKEY_CURRENT_USERS in the Local Machine hive and search for
  43.    the Control Panel\Keyboard subkey.
  44.  
  45.    The InitialKeyboardIndicators:REG_SZ: value corresponds to the
  46.    HKEY_USERS value: 0 turns NUM LOCK off when the user logs on and 2
  47.    turns NUM LOCK on when the user logs on.
